Who do I claim off

Hi,

I was sold mortgage protection when I was self employed by a company called Eden mortgage, though the insurer was payment shield.

I was lend to believe I needed the policy to get a mortgage. Also the policy didn't cover people who were self employed.

Who do I claim off, Eden or payment shield.

Thanks
Foxwold

You dont claim from any one. You make a complaint to whoever sold it to you and you provide documents to backnup your complaintl. Does it say on paper thatit does not cover self employed, because many policies do .
If it doesnt, why did you take it out????

According to the Paymentshield website the policy does cover the self employed, you have to have been self employed for 6 continuous months prior to commencement of the policy. Where does it say in your policy documents that self employed aren't covered.

Paymentshield is a quality provider who only do monthly premium (no single premium) and cover the self employed. Their product is also standalone and not built into debt. All the things a good PPI should be.
Also the policy didn't cover people who were self employed.

What makes you think that as Paymentshield certainly do cover the self employed.

You probably did. Not to actually get the mortgage but to get the free mortgage advice from the broker. A very common model that is allowed as long as the insurance is suitable.

  • If you suffer a misfortune that the policy covers, you CLAIM from Paymentshield.

If you wish to complain about the way it was sold, that must be made to whoever sold it to you.

However, if your complaint is that it would not pay out because you are self-employed, if Nearlyold is correct, that would not be a valid reason.

If you were told it was a condition of the loan when it was not, that would be a valid reason for a complaint. However, you would then need to prove this was more likely than not (and not merely equally likely) to be true.

That is likely to be difficult.

As the seller was a broker, they are unlikely to simply roll over and pay anyway as any redress will come out of their own pocket.
