  • I dont get it, what can anyone do? Npower just ignore every communication. They have ignored ie not responded to my original Resolver complaint in any way, so what does one do?

I suggest, if you have cause for complaint, you follow the suppliers complaint procedure :)

    Or option 3...
Stay on the deal you have agreed to and were presumably happy with (notwithstanding you failed to read and agree the terms you confirmed you did) until it expires, and then consult a comparison site to find the best deal for you again at that time.

I thought I posted the section in the T&C where it stated you could switch to a longer fix without paying the fee or perhaps you failed to read that bit?
    I think....

Well if those are the terms you agreed to, then what is the issue?

But I didn't see such terms about 10-12 months ago (see post#25)

Do check carefully the terms of any new deal you agree to as they may well differ from the terms you originally agreed to.
  • This is the email I received (and FU acknowledge was sent to me on 19th September 2015)

If you change your mind don’t worry, you can cancel in the next 14 days by email, letter or telephone. Once your 14 day cooling off period has ended, you may be charged an early exit fee of £30 per fuel if you leave during your fixed period or if you switch supplier or switch to a variable rate tariff or a shorter fixed term tariff with us. These fees will be waived if a longer First Utility fixed price tariff is selected.
    Warm regards

That is quite clear...I would be very interested to find out what the Ombudsman or indeed Trading Standards has to say

Maybe I'm missing something here, but have you transferred tariff to a longer dated fixed term?
If so, have you been charged an early exit fee?

If not, then neither the ombudsman nor TS will be at all interested, and so will have nothing to say.

But you don't need to take my word for it. I'm sure they will gladly tell you themselves if you contact them. :)

That was the email I received when I first took out my current tariff. I tried to transfer online to a longer tariff but when it asked me to confirm I was happy to pay the exit fee that is when I contacted FU on 12th February. I received an email today saying they no longer waived the exit fee from "around December" apparently...I'm not happy and have told them I wish to escalate this so I'm now waiting for them to reply

I am fighting this too, I tried to upgrade from a 14 month fix to a 15 month fix and they tried to charge me an exit fee
  • After speaking to First Utility today about the exit fees for existing customers mid-term they tell me that this policy is now under review and expect to announce something shortly. They are passing on all customer feedback to management about it.

In the meantime current policy is exit fees waived if new tariff has an end date greater than 12months from current tariff.

I see some new tariffs coming forward, e.g. April 2017 v4 which look competitive but would like to avoid £60 if possible.

Interesting.............just logged into my account and looked at alternative tariffs to my current Jan17 and noticed the new April 17v4 has no warning re exit fees. A week ago if I looked at 12-14 month fixed alternatives I was getting a warning (while 24-39 month fixes never were.)

Has the policy been reversed already??
