Halifax have taken £430 Good Sign?

Hi All,
Halifax have taken what I imagine to be the valuation fees out of our account yesterday? However they did ask for a letter from my wife and I explaining our previous glitches such as defaults.
How often do people still get declined after fees have been taken out?
Regards

Wait for mortgage offer, no point in speculating"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

The first thing they do is take the fees and instruct the valuation.I am a Mortgage Broker

Yes. They can stop the valuation if they don't want to spend the applicant's money.
You cannot submit the full application without paying the appropriate fees.I am a mortgage broker. When we applied with Halifax the very first thing they did was whip the £795 valuation and survey fee straight out the account0

Yep, just been told it's with an underwriter now.
Should hear back within 24 hours :eek:0 -

Hi Guys,
Update today from my mortgage advisor, I presume it's a good sign if the underwriter is asking questions rather than a straight decline?
"I have spoken with them today, and clarified that *wife* is returning to work July/August, full time in her salary of £**k. Also confirmed there is no childcare due to shift patterns and grandparents.
This has all been referred back to the underwriter, so we will hopefully get a response tomorrow (asking further questions can only be seen as a good thing - I hope!) "0
