Passport fraud

Hi all,
Sorry if this is in the wrong area, I couldn't really see a better place.
Basically this morning I've had an attempted delivery by a DX man of what we assumed was a passport to a totally unknown name at my address. I should stress we're in a new build home as the only ever occupier. No other home existed on the land previously. The name doesn't even belong to a neighbour.
What, if anything, do you think has happened here? A mistake by the passport office? Or do you think I might end up with some criminal at my door demanding his document? Or even a more serious fraud?
Thanks!

Why do you think it was a passport?
DX deliver all manner of goods for pretty much anyone.0 -
It was the DX man who thought it was, it was marked as being from the Home Office and to be fair was passport shaped and sized. xxx0

I tried this in Google Translate but couldn't find any language in which it made any sense

It could be something as simple as a dropped digit on the address. I had similar, the address had been registered as 5 rather than 25.
But if you are concerned you're going to need to keep speaking with the Passport Office. You would assume they could do a search by address?0 -
Right got off the phone with the passport office, they're doing everything they can not to open an investigation.
There's literally no-one with that name on any permutation of our address, and only one person with that surname in our entire district but they're no where near here and don't share anything similar. (I've contacted them to see and it's not them). xxx0 -
Why not just put it back in the post to the Passport Office marked 'Not Known At This Address'.0

From reading the first post, I don't think that the OP accepted the delivery as they referred to it as "an attempted delivery"Why not just put it back in the post to the Passport Office marked 'Not Known At This Address'.AnnieO1234 wrote: »Basically this morning I've had an attempted delivery by a DX man of what we assumed was a passport to a totally unknown name at my address.
If you do have the package Annie, you are doing nothing illegal by opening it to confirm what is inside. If you do this, your next step would depend on what the contents actually are.0
