Cruciate repair - Cat.....not long after my dogs went!

Poor cat was lame over the weekend, kept trying to put weight on it unsuccessfully. Thought she might have strained something and would improve as was eating OK. Went to vets last night, who wanted an x-ray as could be hip related, possibly related to previous injury where she shattered her leg after being hit by a car and now has one leg slightly shorter than the other.

Just had the phone call to say the cruciate ligament is ruptured, she has a very loose kneecap and one of the pins remaining from previous surgery has migrated and she will need it pulled out if they can get to it. Currently in surgery and hope to bring her home tonight.

You may remember that one of my dogs had TPLS surgery in October to repair his cruciate and I thought we were just over that - is this just a fluke that both have done it in a short space of time?! :(

Fingers crossed for the cat, she's a little rescue, runt of the litter who was expected to die as a cat as all four of them were abandoned. Now a beautiful little black, petite cat who is a sweetheart....

  • Complete fluke! More unusual in cats than dogs but repair tends to be very good (although previous injury & surgery will complicate things a bit).
Hope your cat feels better soon
  • She's home and crated and really not happy, howling in pain every time she moves. Poor thing. Surgery went well, managed to repair and pull the kneecap together but the pin couldn't be rescued as was slipping away every time they made contact with it, and they don't want to cut through muscle etc. to get to it. So she has a pin laying horizontally under her tail (in the bum area) which has migrated form her leg and looks very odd on the x-rays.

Eating though and stumbling around the crate to get to the litter tray which is good.
