Need help with ppi claim!!

I need help of what I am suppose to do with a ppi claim for my nan, she has had a burtons account since 1984 and has been paying 35 pound a month up until 2 years ago, the only reason it stopped two years ago is because she made a a query about it and the month she queried about it burtons (Santander) stopped charging it and said that she would not be able to claim, we have her account number, she also has a few overs but where do we start?? Thanks.

The first thing you need is to establish what complaint you will make on behalf of your grandmother. It's not somehow "wrong" simply having PPI insurance. Remember that it's the circumstances of the actual sale (in 1984) which determine whether it was mis-sold. Was your gran already retired or not working in 1984?
If you find that the PPI would not have been suitable at the time of the sale, then you should write to Santander giving details of this. At the very least, I would expect the Bank to refund the PPI from the date of your Gran's retirement (although they will be under no obligation to do so).

Just wondering have you actually confirmed your nan had PPI? Was she paying £35 a month on top of any minimum credit repayment or did she pay exactly £35 every month?
  • A constant £35 a month does not sound like PPI because PPI on a store card tends to vary with the balance on the account.

A 1984 sale also sounds too early to be PPI.

So I wonder if this is really PPI.

In addition, 1984 was before the Ombudsman Scheme that would give FOS jurisdiction over Santander was launched.

A burtons account? As in a store card? Unlikely Santander will refund her money as they will say they were no responsible for the sale.
You could make your complaint to Santander and see whether they accept it, they probably won't, so then you'll probably have to complain to GE money.
