Natwest current account

Hi all
Had a few bad years of credit history - got a few defaults all statute barred and will be dropping off next year. Really hoping to open a current account as I have a co-op cashminder just now.
Someone suggested to try Natwest but a couple of my defaults were with RBS so don't think I'll be accepted?
Is there any banks that give current accounts to thise with a less than perfect history?
I'd really like the chance to prove that I learned from my stupid younger days and that I'm more responsible with managing my money these days.
I tried Barclays but all they could offer me was a basic account with a contactless card.
I'm not really after a bells and whistles account but a cheque book would be handy for me especially when it comes to things like school trips and I don't have cash in my purse (I rarely carry any cash).
Thanks

To be honest with defaults on your file you will struggle to get an account that comes with a cheque book. I know my school allow online payments for school trips etc. Not many places accept chequers any more so not sure about the cash in your pocket bit. Try the nationwide they probably will offer there basic account but if you run it well they will upgrade you and at that point you will be able to get a cheque book.
Good luck

Would it not make sense to try for a co-op current account seeing as you already have a cash minder with them?0

I had a few defaults on my credit file with Natwest due to drop off this year and they gave me another account in September (with a contactless card). Give it a go if they reject your application then try barclays, nationwide or co-op but if your going for co-op register via the topcashback site as I believe their cashback is £15 at the moment. x0
