Scottish Power Gas Reading

Hello,

I'm currently with SP for dual fuel using their online service. Having entered my quarterly readings for May to Aug my gas bill showed a usage of 172 units. Compared to the same time last year i had allegedly used almost three times as much gas.

I decided to contact them and was directed to the energy efficiency dept where they proceeded to ask me lots of patronising questions regarding my gas usage. In the end i was told to record 7 days worth of readings before re-contacting them. As the week is just about up i have used approx 1 unit of gas per day therefore averaging approx 90 units over the quarter.

I was wondering if anyone had experienced similar problems and what was the end result??

Thanks

Paul

Were your readings last year(at the same time) actual readings or was one(or both) estimated? Or could you have had your meter changed from an Imperial meter to a metric meter?

Using one unit a day in August(giving a estimated quarterly usage of 90 units) is probably not a good indicator of usage in May/June when it is colder.

You can get them to test your meter if you suspect it is faulty; however if it is not you pay for the test which is normally around £60.

Assuming you have a metric meter(most have) 172 units will cost approx £45 which is not very high for 3 months and approx £15 last year is very low.
  • Hi,

I have an imperial meter and all my readings are supplied by me online. My quarterly reading last year was between apr - jul therefore not a massive change expected. When looking at my average consumption year on year it follows usual patterns. I have confirmed with SP that they have correct meter details therefore i think i may have a fault.
