calculating gross pay

hi there,

i have lived in the uk all of my life until i recently moved to the states. i literally landed with only a suitcase, and when i moved out of my house i kept a few papers and documents at my mums. however, in all of the upheaval, i lost (probably shredded) my P60, so do not know how much gross pay i earned last year.

i have to declare my gross pay in order to cancel my tax credits that i recieved. i can calculate my net pay through bank statements and some pay slips (which fall short by 4 months). i never claimed for expenses or company car or anything so surely it should be a straight forward calculation.

i have written to the inland revenue and declared my net pay, but they said that isn't good enough. i know my tax code.

can anyone help me or give advice about how to figure out this total amount. i do not want the inland revenue on my back and i don't want 'fraud' stamped all over my records!

(any money they have given me since i left the country, i have put aside in a savings account ready to return to them, but until i get this sorted i can't close my uk account, and my finances are in danger of getting really messy).

any advice would be welcome!

cheers :)

  • Can you ask the company you worked for for a copy of the information they put on the P60? I've had to do this before now and although they can't issue another P60 they may still be able to give you this information.
