A friend at work hit the kerb last night on his way home, smashed his wheel/tyre and damaged his lower front bumper, his car of of little value so doesnt want to claim on the insurance, should he still report it, even though he didnt hit anything else or anyone? He was about 1/2 mile from home so put his spare wheel on and got home
Any advice please

Report what and to whom?
As long as the kerb isn't damaged there's nothing to report under the road traffic act. Whether he decides it's an incident is a matter for himself.0 -
He is meant to report the accident to his insurers but most people (myself included) wouldn't bother.
As long as he is sure that there was no damage to the kerb and the only damage is to his vehicle, which isn't being claimed for then the only people who would gain from a report are the insurance companies themselves.0 -
you should report it to your insurer but as said above most people would not bother. It will not be a problem unless damage has been caused to any one else's property.0

Ask his garage if there's anything serious to worry about with the car - tracking, braking etc & move onto another vehicle if so.
Also do the post-whiplash exercises as a prophylactic.0 -
I wouldn't report it as there is no claim.0

That's not an accident, just wear and tear.0
