    You don't need to fund it to get the interest; that merely waives the account fee.

    Whilst it is correct that the monthly deposit it not a pre-requisite for receiving interest, it would be a pretty dreadful move not to make the monthly deposit. The account fee is 30% of the gross interest of a fully loaded account, and more % if the account isn't fully loaded. It would be incredible if anyone knowingly and wilfully paid the avoidable account fee, especially if they have, with almost certainty, at least £4K in the account and therefore no problem finding £1,500 to swap out and in.
