PPI Claim

Hi I have made a PPI Claim but my bank says it has no record of my mortgage.

Where else can I search to find out information as my mortgage was cleared a good few years ago

If not your own archive of paperwork then all you can do is gamble £10 on a DSAR to the bank to see if their archive holds anything. If not your complaint is over if you have no paperwork yourself. In addition, you may have had MPPI with an insurer not with the bank so the bank wouldn't see it anyway

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Keep asking the lender. I approached HSBC with a similar request about details of a credit card that was finished in 2005. They refused to provide any information, then, as I persisted (including the threat of a Fin. Ombudsman complaint), I got a drip feed of info, including the actual product number. They also provided details of a Flexiloan that I forgot I took out that had PPI on it!

So I guess the lesson is to keep trying and also do a Subject Access Request as this should turn up all fin. info that the lender holds on you (but you have to be specific about dates and give as much info when making the request in the first place).

    Good luck!

Even if they find the mortgage, they may not find the MPPI (assuming you actually had MPPI). One of the reasons why most MPPI complaints fail is that most MPPI is set up standalone from the mortgage. Its not built in like it is with loans or credit cards. That is how PPI should be. So, it has no technical failing like those.

Plus, most mortgages in the UK are arranged via brokers. So, the bank would have no record of MPPI arranged by a broker and the bank has no liability for it in those cases.

your bank statements will show the direct debits you had.
