    How long are you unemployed?
Think you might get it free if you went through New Deal but you have to have been unemployed for 18 months(6 if youre under 25)
You are correct.I have only been unemployed since June.
  • i did ecdl last year at ballymena college, it costs £99 but if you are on benefits or a low income you get it half price.
  • I am doing EDCL at Belfast Met College in Belfast and it is costing £86 that is reduced from £176 because I am on JSA.
I Just want a bit more experince on computers and am just looking for a part time job to supplement the family coffers.......

I paid £70 at my son's local school via castlereagh, they got a benefit cuz they were offering it to parents and obviously supplying their classroom as the teaching area, but they haven't done any since the new build...

As for OU, I started doing a degree course there, it was ok but a few things happened in my personal life and I had to give it up, I'm glad I did mind you, it was a case of putting my career priorities on the line and I'm not in a position to take on a job a degree in computers would give me.

Most employers would accept ECDL even if the job doesn't really relate to sitting at a desktop all day, e.g some shops like their staff to be pc literate and the hospital nursing staff have to know their way around a computer too.

its 1 x 4 hr class of tuition followed the following week by a 4 hour session of tuition/practice exam then exam (7 exams in total for ecdl)

ECDL is a waste of time. I guess you have to start somewhere though. If you want to learn how to use Office it's fine for that. If however you want a job, it's a piece of crap. Unless it's a low grade admin job which requires basic word, excel etc skills. Depends really what you want it for. If you're on the "rock and roll" at least you're not leeching and are actually getting up of your !!! instead of drinking beer and smoking fags... so fair play to you.
