I have posted this in the N.I thread as sometimes its different in Northern Ireland.I am unemployed at the moment and would possibly like to do the above course to improve my chances of employment.
I am currently receiving JSA . would i be eligible to get on any courses especially the above at a reduced rate whilst on JSA ?

Should be available to you for free m8;) get advice next time your at the job centre or whatever its called now. Worth doing the ECDL only for the piece of paper that says you have it, the exam itself is pretty easy if you have any computer experience;)
Good luck with the job seekingI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
Checked with the job centre I can do the ECDL at Belfast Met college for a reduced rate of £87 because i am on JSA
the full rate is £170
It is a fast track course in the evening, so even if i get a job i can still do it.0 -
Hi there harvy 1964. I wish you well in your course and i hope it is not long until you are employed again. That is good that the course can still continue when you are working again. I am retired early through ill health and was always working, and i am starting a C.L.A.I.T. course at A.T.L.A.S in Sloan Street Lisburn in September and have done a few courses there for computers and have really enjoyed them so much. You are getting out of the house for a couple of hours and meeting like minded people of all ages, and during the wee tea/ coffee break you can chat easily to the others in your class. all the very best to you.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

Passing six tests means you get one paper certificate, one plastic card, and the fully stamped logbook.0 -
Thank you for your replies and encouragement.
Am looking forward to starting my course in a few weeks.
It will keep the brain active if nothing else.0 -
How long are you unemployed?
Think you might get it free if you went through New Deal but you have to have been unemployed for 18 months(6 if youre under 25)0 -
I'll be honest with you ECDL doesn't exactly carry a lot of weight, You'd be better doing something at the Open Uni as you will get it for free and a degree carries alot more weight that an ECDL, even this http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?Q01C47 carries more weight, I completed this last year, hasn't done me any good right enough but still its there.0

Can you sit the ECDL exam without doing a course?Dave0

ECDL does give you a qualification in using specific applications and can be obtained in a relatively short while.
ECDL with one additional BCS paper is a level 2 qualification in the national framework. The OU course is an undergraduate level 1 (= level 4 in the national framework).
Whether the OU course would be better depends on what sort of work you are looking for. If you want a job using a computer in an office, ECDL has a lot to offer. And you can then do Advanced ECDL.0
