Sources of data and research

Options
I have a query for the ones of you who do equity research / analysis. Do you use free sources of data and research like MorningStar, MSN Money, Yahoo Finance? If so, which ones would you recommend and why? I am trying to do myself a project and I am looking for European sources of free data and research for GBP or possibly Euro denominated shares.

Morningstar deals with GBP and Euro ones as well and it is a highly detailed website.

    I would recommend that one.

I too use Morningstar and recommend it. It is quite a nice portfolio tool too. A couple of criticisms would be that the fund comparison tool is pretty poor, and that quite often the benchmark they choose to compare fund performance to is clearly the wrong benchmark.

Advfn.co.uk has some useful free graphing and company-level financial data. If you want to get a data dump of open/ close/ high/ low /volume information for a few different equities over a date range the fee for they level of membership for a month or two ( the period of your project) would be pretty small.

Google finance would let you have the price data for free (via a plug-in formula on their spreadsheet within Google docs) but detailed analysis usually requires following linked news reports from their main site - no easy way to get the official RNSs, while ADVFN has therm under its news section.

Trustnet and morningstar for fund data, advfn for share data. I am not interested in "research".

Fama French data is available free including UK sources. It depends what you want to research/study.
