Which technically they shouldn't be doing as you cannot alter the terms of a contract once it becomes legally binding.
True, but I would have checked the T&Cs when I got given the card if I wasn't intending to use it for a while, but I certainly wouldn't leave it for years before spending it.
Would you not have checked the card to see if there was an expiry or any limits on its use?0 -

I always read T&C's. But unless they're given before the contract became binding, I also know those T&C's wouldn't be enforceable and are likely to breach consumer protection legislation.
Tbh I hate all types of gift card. Theres this mentality that giving cash is thoughtless but in my experience, this often isn't the case and the person has thought about it and decided cash would be better as then you can spend it where ever you like on whatever you like and whenever you'd like. I mean, how many people have gotten gift cards for places they never shop in and then have to look for something they like?
By all means if you know someone shops somewhere regularly, gift cards may be a good idea. But other than that, they should be avoided at all costs - its basically just giving them free money. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
