Monday 1st Feb - What small DFW things will you do today?

Bob - Oh no!! so sorry to hear you have had appendicitis. Best wishes for a speedy recovery x
DNMS - I've actually been thinking I need to re-type that pattern as I don't have a digital copy & it also has a correction in it. I no longer see the ex-colleague who gave me the original pattern. My copy is getting tatty where it's been folded. If I lost my copy, I could still knit socks for big guys without it, as I've made so many pairs for various men in my life, plus several to sell. However, I don't know the smaller sizes from memory, so having a digital copy would be useful. If I aim to do that this week, I could email it to you as an attachment?
F x2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever
2) To read 100 books (46/100) 3) The Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg

Twiggy - You're right, there are some strange anomalies with that world food aisle! I've had those tomatoes too, though usually get ours from Aldi, as we have to go to the next town for Sainso's. We have also occasionally bought cooking oil from that aisle, chickpeas - both dried & tinned, chilli powder, etc. It's always worth looking. I noticed they sell chickpea flour too, often called 'besan' in Indian recipes. I really struggled to get that in our town. I wanted it for a couple of Indian veggie side dishes & had to ask a friend who lives in a nearby much more cosmopolitan area of the county to get me some. I keep looking to see if they have big 1L or 500ml size of soy sauce, but no luck yet. Feel it would be much more economical (& greener) than buying it in those titchy little bottles.

Using your posts as a template so I don't forget anything, here are the things I can do this month to get a bit more money into my savings account:
Finance
Reality-check online banking every day
Make sure car tax gets sorted with BF
Keep putting £1 into Roland Rat-bank every day for xmas
Keep track of food spends and keep a tighter budget
Buy anything I need through Quidco and transfer cashback
Take more Prolific Academic surveys and transfer cashback
Home & Decluttering
Get through HUGE washing pile
Take charity shop clothes to charity shop
Put unwanted nice shoes and bags on ebay
Put Lloyd Loom chair on ebay/Gumtree
Tidy upstairs
Tidy downstairs
Sort "bread and bits" cupboard
Waste Not
Use up meat in freezer by end of the month
Lights off/switches off when not in use
Prep lunches - do not buy lunch for rest of month!
Drive smarter to save fuel - EVERY DAY (no racing!)
Freeze leftovers instead of forgetting about them
Make breakfasts/packed lunches at home at the weekend
Drink homebrew when having a night in
Use up food in cupboards before buying more
Leisure & Entertainment
Host a dinner party to help use up freezer food
Bake a cake instead of sending flowers
Read books I already have instead of buying more
Drink less alcohol - more water!
Use cook books and eat at home more - stop funding the Ribble Valley gastro pubs' pension pots!
Use up old bananas in banana bread
Go for a walk up a hill
That's about it for now. I'm sure I'll come up with more things as I go along! If I can keep up with these I'll be very happy

Hi all
Hope you are doing ok Bob , thinking of you.
After training today popped into farm fds and got stuff for office, tea toilet rolls etc and discovered if you sign up for an email you get 5 off 50 spend voucher . Wish I had known this before. How exciting.
I opened my mr t app whilst in store and did a 10 minute comparison. Interesting eg castor sugar mr t 1.68 fed £1.00. To a house that bakes as cheaply as possible as farm men just inhale food this is very interesting. That product will go towards a thank you for having me hamper from my daughter when she stays with my farming sister in March .
So far we are sticking to menu plan.

Hi everyone
It's lovely to see the thread so busy today - and welcome to Aegean :hello:
It's been another long and tiring day for me today. Still lots to get done but I'm just sitting down for the evening now.
Bob - hope that you're doing ok, or as well as can be at the moment.
Foxgloves - I love the world foods aisle in Mr S - you can get nuts and coconut milk so much cheaper there than in the other aisles.
Lambda - I adore the bakery at Costc0 - always buy their big cakes for birthday parties and celebrations, but all of their baked goods are gorgeous.crazy_cat_lady wrote: »

Hi all
Bit of a late check in for me. Hope you are on the mend Bob. Oh and MMM too. Just too windy to hang the footie kit out so I have had both airers set up in the living room all day with the dehumidifier going. Most of it is dry and the third load will go over the airer in front of the fire before we go to bed.
Chicken jambalaya for tea. DS1 had a difficult appointment today so I treated him to coffee and cake afterwards. Didnt spend anything else in town which I was pleased about. Busy day at work tomorrow and I need to catch up on some housework.0
