LHR->NYC->SFO/LA->HNL flight plan/ideas

I'm planning on doing a mega USA trip this summer but looking to keep flying costs low whilst fulfilling my objectives. I'm looking to complete this trip in a 2 week window in August.
LHR->NYC - this is to attend a friend's wedding on Saturday 6th August. Ideally, I'm looking to touchdown on the Thursday. For this leg I'm interested in Iceland Air, so there is a possibility of stopping off in Iceland for a a day or two, plus it's cheaper than a direct flight with BA or Virgin.
LHR->SFO/LA->HNL - this one is up in the air (excuse the pun), from NYC, I'm looking to travel to HNL, but if possible stop somewhere on the West Coast for a brief excursion like 2 days maximum. I'm not entirely sure where to start with this.
I'm having a chat with Virgin Holidays, since they go to the destinations I'm going to, to see what they can do, but I get the feeling it's going to break the bank. But it's a starting point.
Any thoughts, tips in the right direction, wouldn't go a miss.
Thanks.

Try putting the flights you want starting from Dublin instead of London or Manchester into a site like https://www.kayak.co.uk or google flights using the multi sector options. Flights to Dublin are dirt cheap and faresto the US are often substantially lower starting in Dublin.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Which date do you want to leave NYC?
Which date do you want to arrive back at LHR?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

Too far to go to HNL for just the week IMHO.
A flight back is about 19 hrs IIRC0 -
If you're intent on spending a far amount of time on Oahu, the local bus service is dirt cheap and reliable. Personally, I'd only spend a couple of days on Oahu before moving to another island.

Also, try working in a day or so on the return as the jet lag from Hawaii can be horrendous.
Can't really comment on the flights without dates.0 -

Thanks - I just checked at Kayak, strange to fly back to England, but bearable for the cost saving. I think this could be the deal clincher for the UK->NYC leg.Student loan: Cleared.0 -

I have no idea what I'll be doing in Hawaii yet, but thanks for the tip. And yes, I take it I should allow two days to return.Student loan: Cleared.0 -

I flew BHX-DUB-LCY-JFK-LAX-LIH-LAX-JFK-DUB-EMA last year all in just over 4 days. Cost a tad over £1000 all in business or First.
A week, pfff, luxury
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
On multi stop trips like this that go a long way to the west in a fairly short period of time, you can have too many travel days and with the effect of jet lag you'll find yourself fighting to stay awake in the early evening on too many occasions.
You could have a great trip doing Iceland, NYC, Boston, Maine, saving on air fares and no additional jet lag going further west, have look at Wow air and Norwegian from Gatwick.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
