I remember going to birthday parties in my long party dress! We used to take them to school (if the party was on a week night) so we could change at the birthday girls house.
And it was always a homemade birthday cake in shape of your age. And warm spring evenings playing statues and musical bumps and of course pass the parcel outside  .MFiT-T2 No.350 -

Sometimes when I lay in bed at night, I could absolutely cry with the pain in my legs. Grandmother ALWAYS put it down to 'growing pains' - it did honestly feel as though my legs were being stretched lengthways. I was THEN given a dose of 'Angier's Junior Aspirin' - the orange flavour ones. They got banned sometime when my own kids were young - wonder why? Then I found our that there's supposed to be no such thing as Growing Pains. Wonder what the heck those pains were then - they seemed to go on for a few years. Maybe just the aches and pains of a child who was constantly on the go! Funnily enough I stopped growing at the age of 13 - but had reached 5ft 10ins - thank God I stopped THEN!
Another of Grandmother's favourite things for dosing with was 'Syrup of Figs' for when you 'couldn't go'! If there was no SoF, then it was a glass of cabbage water - that worked as well! If I had the 'tummy gripes' (almost opposite of 'couldn't go') it was a dose of 'Indian Brandee' or that disgusting concoction called 'Milk of Magnesia' - white, chalky and gloopy!
Like everybody else of my generation (post-war baby boom), in the winter there was a daily dose of cod liver oil - either from the spoon (yuk!) or in capsule form - either way you got a 'fishy burp' half way through maths EVERY morning!
But the real treat was reserved for when you were 'proper ill' - and you got bought a bottle of 'Lucozade' in an orange cellophane wrapper - and got told that it wasn't pop so don't drink it too quickly. Just when did the taste of Lucozade change to orange? The original stuff was a sort of Glucose taste - gorgeous.0 -
Hi All
just thought I'd let you know that I've nominated this thread for post of the month......I've been meaning to do it for a few days but only just got around to it.

angie aspirins - i was just about to mention them,:T
and you are right about lucozade... the stuff in proper bottles with squeeky cellophane wrapping was stunning...its awful stuff now.
What about those toys where you had 2 people holding a pair of handles and you were joined together by cord, and you had to pull your hand apart realy fast to make the big plastic rugby ball hit the other end.... endless hours of agony as your knuckles got battered:rotfl:-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50
