Hope someone out there can help....
A friend of mine's Vaio's hard drive died on him (outside of warranty of course!). I had a spare and have installed it.
However, I've loaded XP Home on the machine (all legit from the OEM) but it doesn't recognise the internal (I believe) v92 modem. I've tried the Sony sites to no avail as the driver I've downloaded goes through the install process all the way until it reaches the screen asking what port it is on. There are no ports to choose from in the window and its internal anyway.
Anybody out there have any idea what to do or even better have a RS224 drivers CD. The machine itself was an ex-display model and the CD supplied with it is for a number of Vaio models but not this one. It simply won't play ball.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Go here and follow the instructions.

You should find the drivers you require.
Its what I did for a m8s laptop.0 -
Thanks but have already tried this link.
There isn't a modem driver present for this particular model.0 -
Not sure what to suggest then really.
If you have a m8 with broadband u could plug the system into it and run the micosoft driver online search to see if that helps.
Or you could just buy a cheap modem and put that in instead.
Sorry but I cant think of anything else.0 -
Hi if you go into the bios and find out the name and model of the modem, mine's a dell laptop however as I found they use 3com internal modem's. And then do a google search for the driver or go to a driver website theres loads of them around hopefully you should be able to get the driver and then upload it to the add new hardware section in control panel. Hope this helps.0

Cracked it thanks guys.
I'd downloaded the driver I thought was appropriate last night by connecting my broadband connection to it, but it wouldn't install.
Just been into the System Hardware Device Manager to ponder further actions and decided to disable Ethernet Controller as no network required. But then tried modem Hardware Update Wizard again just for the sake of it and it recognises modem and installs said downloaded driver.
So I'm assuming there was a conflict between the internal modem and the ethernet controller.
Thanks for your help.0
