win 10 200g disapeared

photo just sent to me , a new build with a 256g ssd and a 500 back up drive


very few docs or photos installed , 7,5g remaining on a 256g ssd?


I loaded windows as a clean install , there was over 200g free when I handed the machine back




had him checking (by phone) , disk cleanup , del temps etc , hibernate is off




any thoughts

Only thing that i can think of is the Win 10 backup has "backed up" the backup drive to the SSD.

Was their a lot on the Backup drive when you did a clean install?

Check the settings for how and where it's backing up...

there is about 5 gig of music and photos on drive d:


in disk management the drive is showing the correct partition's


even if the guy hit copy instead of delete on files , there are not any folders large enough to fill that gap , a full windows directory is only about 16 gig

I have emailed the link to windirsat to the bloke , he will load and phone back this evening , I will at that point be able to tell him to delete the offending file(s) or indeed if it needs to be put in a caddy and deleted via my computer


will report back later with the answer to the offending file(s)

windirsat ran , user profile (len) was 196 gig


I talked him thru creating a new account , and moving a couple of folders from his desk top


he then altered the new account to admin , and deleted the old account , 196g reappeared


I am not going to get involved in how he managed to !!!! it up , but its done now

Might have been profile limits.
Think with win10 it can give each user a Max limit of 10Gb of storage or there about!

It's supposed to be off by default might have been accidentally selected whenthe admin account was created.
