Lost Driving Licence

I recently lost my driving licence photo card. I'm hoping this will get returned to me by some good Samaritan but not holding too much hope.

Anyway, my question - should I worry too much in regards to ID theft? I've not lost my cards before so have no idea but a lot of anxiety in regards to this sort of issue. I don't know if the card is a secure thing or how much somebody could do with my card. I spoke to the police earlier on today and they didn't seem fussed at all.

Thanks for any help, not sure if I've posted this in the right area at all.

    Not as of yet.
  • It's unlikely to come to anything but it wouldn't do any harm to sign up to one or more of the credit check services such as :
    http://www.equifax.co.uk/Products/credit/credit-score.html?cmp=generic|creditreport|check_exact|&gclid=CLTr8I2G1coCFQEFwwodjdoHdQ&gclsrc=aw.ds
    and

You can do enrol for these for a free 30 day period (and if you don't want to continue, make sure that you comply with the requirements for cancellation before you start getting charged).

    Why not?...
  • Do I have to produce my licence if stopped by the police?

If stopped by police they are entitled to ask to see your driving licence, and if you do not have the licence with you they may give you an HO/RT1 Producer for driving licences, insurance certificates and MOTs.

HO/RT1 stands for Home Office / Road Traffic 1 form, and is issued by police under powers granted by section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. This Act allows police to request you to produce for inspection a valid motor insurance certificate, a current MOT certificate for the car you are driving, and a driving licence.

If you are unable to produce these documents then the HO/RT1 gives you up to seven days to attend a police station to present your documents. If you have lost your driving licence then this could be a problem.

You should apply to the DVLA for a replacement.

I don't have a car anymore. Used it for identification purposes only in the last couple of years.
