Help - Firefox won't let me connect to forums

Options
Please help. I can't connect to the forums using my bookmark link or inserting the address when using Firefox. To make this posting I'm using IE.

I'm also getting the same problem with accessing My Ebay page. I don't seem to be able to get into my Ebay file even using IE. But at least I can get to the web site which Firefox won't do.

It will connect to these web sites then stays forever in the waiting mode and will not connect. I can connect to my email, google and it seems all other web sites.

I've run CCleaner and have done a restore to when things were good - yesterday. Now restored to Mid Aug, but made no difference.

Have I got a wrong setting somewhere? How can I find and correct my probs please?

Your advice appreciated. Thanks

  • I can get into MyEbay using IE and the MSE Forum using IE. Firefox won't access either but seems to access all other sites.

Is it a cookie problem somewhere? Please help I don't really know what I'm doing

Is the date and time of your clock correct?

Try Start - Run - type cmd - OK. In the black window enter:

    ipconfig /flushdns

    then:

    ipconfig /registerdns

How do you connect to the internet? Broadband (cable or ADSL) or dial-up and what equipment do you use (router, modem etc.)? Try switching off router or modem for 2 mins.
  • Thanks Chippy Minton for your response. I was just about giving up hope of anybody trying to help.

I've done the run thing and got these results:-

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver cache

    and the second one

Registration of the DNS source for all adapters of this computer has been initiated. Any errors will be reported in the events viewer in 15mins.....

I'm on dial-up to Fast4 with an inbuilt modeM in a Dell Dimension 3000. Sorry ,I'm not sure how to turn off the Mode M.

I thought it might be my Sunbelt Kerio free firewall. But I turned that off and tried , makes no difference. Still only connecting here and Ebay thru IE.

Thanks for your assistance. Next move ??????

What about other secure sites? Do you bank online, and can you log into that with Firefox? Other web emails?

Banking is OK. I've just transferred some money to test etc.

Can get into Yahoo email account , hotmail ( please see edit below), googlemail is ok

Hope this info helps - thanks for taking an interest.

EDIT Can get the hotmail log in page but won't actually connect me once I've entered p/word. Just goes into 'waiting' and will wait for ever. Just like Ebay and these forums. Hope this helps

Okay, you can't really turn off an internal modem. Sometimes with routers/external modems switching off or resetting them fixes this type of problem.

In Firefox, click Tools - Options - Advanced tab - Network tab - Settings (Connection section) - make sure 'Direct connection to the internet' is selected. On the Encryption tab, make sure 'Use SSL 3.0' and 'Use TLS 1.0' are both ticked, and click OK all the way out. Close Firefox, reopen it and try those web sites again.

Hi CM. I've done the above. They were already ticked correctly but I unticked and reticked them and ok'd etc.

Still the same. It connects quickly to the web address then goes into 'waiting' and can't download the site.

Perhaps I need to get rid of Firefox? Anything else to do first?

When you ran CCleaner, did you tick all the options in the Internet Explorer section, and on the Applications tab, all the options under Firefox/Mozilla? If not, close all browsers and run CCleaner with those options ticked. Then reboot the computer and try the sites again.

If that doesn't work, try creating a new profile and running Firefox with the new profile. See http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile#new

  • Hi guys,

I am having the same problems and it seems to be down to Fast4. Accessing certain secure https:// sites seems to be causing timeouts. Fast4 are denying there is a problem but lots of their users are getting the same thing:

    http://www.fast4.net/members/_files/system_status.asp

I can access everything okay on another PAYG ISP so I think it is down to their network but despite emails they are refusing to acknowledge anything is wrong. Please email them too if you are having problems!
