Had a 55 reg facelift TD4 auto, good motor after recon VCU (bells) modified crankcase breather (BMW type) EGR bypass and Synergy. Usual corrosion on fuel tank cradle, fuel pump mounting brkt and front brake back plates rusting off. As suggested join Landyzone for more detail but grow a hard skin first
. Fuel consumption never lower than 30 mpg and 36 mpg on a run, far better than 21 mpg with my present RAV 4 auto.
Incidentally the later MK1 's had a ceramic heater rather than a fuel burning heater.0 -
Ive got a 2010 freelander and not had any problems with it but have only had it 6 months. Only get 28mpg though which isnt great.
I have a 2009 HSE 2.2 Diesel Auto ..... Bloke up the road calls it my Sherpa , apparently the engine comes from a Serpa Van , which seems to be a good thing? I have had mine for 2 years. I love it and most spares are Ford based and cheap .The Freelander 2 will be fairley sought after as they haven't really replaced it ( Discovery Sport or Evoque aren't Freelander 3's !)0 -
They are an enthusiasts hobby vehicle.
If you need to rely on it, buy Japanese or Korean.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

BMW sold it to Towers and his buddies for a tenner in 2000.
Maybe you're thinking about Jag, but that was a few years earlier, late 80's if I remember correctly.
Oh, and
Must have got the wires crossed. Should probably have confirmed I was remembering correctly first.
You are probably right.
I do remember that Rover were about to release a LWB version of the 75, I believe there are a few knocking about. Only about 3/4 inches longer apparently.
Do you think this G Series engine went with the rest of the intellectual property and could now be the Diesel engine that the Chinese are putting in their cars?0 -

I always thought all the engines in the Freelander 2 where Ford?0 -

I worked there from 1986-2005. Towers was seen as "the saviour", what a mistake that was  :rotfl:
Not many LWB made and not only a few left now,
https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?q=rover+75+lwb
it was 20cm longer to address the lack of rear leg room and from around 2002 according to this
Don't know about Chinese having the G series as Powertrain was a different company.
More info about the G series here if thats the type of thing that interests you.0 -
I thought I saw one on the A12 a few months ago. Rear door just looked too long, I think it was dark blue or black. They were talking about in the London PH trade at the time, a mate was a fleet manager and Rover did great short term lease deals on them(9 months or 15k miles initially I think) was one of the most reliable cars at the time, and there was a lot of talk about the LWB version, then Rover went bent.
The L Series was a good engine, and good enough for Honda in the Accord of the time.
I would be interested in learning more about the G Series. Have always been a fan of British engineering. Imagine where the British car industry could have been with better investment.
I heard lots of rumours about Towers, huge dividends etc. The rumour was they bled the company dry.
A real shame as the 75 was a great car. Ride almost as good as an S Class.
They are selling the "new" 75 in Ghana. It looks a bit longer than the 75, development of the original LWB 75 concept?0 -

I have never bothered to look into it m but i have now. It is a Ford engine and not fitted to Sherpa Vans. It was the previous 2.5 Diesel (not in Freelander 2) that was used in Sherpa's and LR's0
