  • I still haven't properly started writing it, but I am laughing at evidence of some 3,200-year-old drama.

Letter from a worker (Prehotep) to his supervisor (the scribe Kenherkhopshef, renowned for being a not-very-nice-man) complaining of not being paid for works carried out
Why do you treat me so badly? I’m no better than a donkey in your eyes. When there is work to be done, you fetch a donkey. When it is feeding time, you fetch an Ox. But when there is beer, you never invite me. But if there is work, you look for me! If - god forbid - I was the type that couldn’t hold their drink, then you would be right not to invite me… But I’m just someone who is a bit short of beer in his own house. By writing to you, I’m only trying to fill my stomach!

I don't know if I'll get to write this essay properly because I've honestly, nerd that I am, been laughing about this since this morning.

Not being paid: a problem since at least 1200BC

(note: Egyptian workmen were paid in things like beer and linen. His complains of being "short of beer in his own house" mean he wasn't paid)

  • Just made another payment off Mortgage so that is now down to £52,823.58 - almost at the 700 mark :D ok with £52k in front of that :rotfl::rotfl: but still it feels like another little target almost met and am just quite pleased with myself for getting back on the motivation bus for this :j

Oh dear, I might have to join in on this ! Mine is 14k less than yours, but soon yours will be smaller than mine (Good job that "size doesn't matter" ;) ) - But CC debt needs clearing first I'm sure.

Brill the way you're steaming down the numbers though !
  • Quick questions please.

I have a number of expensive books relating to ann interest I used to have. On the A**zon they list from £10 second hand up and I know some make decent money from de-cluttering books.

So as I understand it A charge 15 % when the book sells ?
and you can leave them on for ever if you want ?
So when you get a sale, how long do you have to post them ? I really need about 3 days to guarantee finding them, wrapping and posting - would this be ok ?

    Thanks in anticipation.
  • I've just saved myself over £100 a year on my gas/leccy by doing the MSE switch (which wasn't a switch but a tarriff change. And I've saved my mum a small fortune! If you haven't tried it - Do!

Can I count the saving as I go along, if I skim it into savings, Aesop?

I'm sure Aesop, our benevolent overlord ;) , will be along with a more exhaustive list but this is what I personally use:

    Surveys
    Vivatic (I make £25-40 a month)
Panelbase (slow earner but £10 cashout - I make around £5 a month)
ValuedOpinions (payout in vouchers only - I make about £14/mo)
    i-say
Prolific Academic (participate in academic research - high paying for time but studies can be thin on the ground)
Pinecone (very high paying, but surveys are like gold-dust)

    Free lotteries/draws

    http://luckyphone.co.uk
    http://ashleighmoneysaver.co.uk/daily-prize-draw/

    Selling
eBay - good for just about anything
amazon - good for books and DVDs
discogs - for vinyl records and CDs

    Smartphone apps
ReceiptHog - snap receipts, get points, convert points to vouchers
Bounts - collect points for being active, convert points to vouchers

    Other stuff
Neobux - pay-to-click site. Fairyclicks is our resident expert on that

Also remember to sign up to TopCashBack or Quidco (or both, personally I'm lazy and only use TCB) and get cashback on your online shopping.

Overtime at work, or income from a second job (if applicable)

Rebates, vouchers, discounts etc from companies.

Basically any money you get that isn't main income from your primary job.

Bundle of baby clothes being collected tomorrow for a tenner, and (WOOP WOOP) cheque for £60 arrived from HMRC today. I'll add both when I see the money honey ;)
