Ovo Energy Tariff - Better Energy (All Online)

Hi guys,

Just after a bit of advice really. My current fixed rate tariff is due to come to an end. I currently pay £53 a month for electricity, no gas. I have found a new tariff that would reduce my bills to £42 a month on a tariff called Better Energy (All Online).

I noticed in the details of the tariff that it says "Please note that this tariff has a limit on the number of contacts. Please see below for more information".

I have looked around the site and can't find anything that explains what a limit on the number of contacts means. Has anyone signed up to this kind of tariff before and can clarify what this means?

Many Thanks

In order to keep prices low, Ovo have introduced the option of "All Online" tariffs.

These tariffs include a £30 per fuel annual discount (credited to the bill on a daily basis). As a result they don't want you contacting them other than online (so they can choose the time when they will respond - helps keep staffing levels low).

    So from their terms
6.2. If you agree to manage your account online, you’re agreeing that you’ll undertake the following actions:

6.2.1. provide quarterly meter readings only using MyOVO or our automated telephone service,

    6.2.2. stop receiving paper bills,

6.2.3. make any changes to your Direct Debit only using MyOVO,

6.2.4. keep your personal details in MyOVO accurate and up to date,

6.2.5. renew your contract using MyOVO (if you decide to renew).

If you don't do things online, you may lose the discount

I've just tried it out and it would cost me £14 a month more but I used my actual consumption in kwh rather than what I pay in £ a month - you get a different estimate of your savings depending on what you enter
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

I've also noticed OVO's "Better Energy (all online)" is about £40/year cheaper for me - except it's not fixed. So it's quite possible that, as and when they feel like it, they'll knock this tariff's prices up while we're locked in for a full year - at least there are no exit fees, though.

I think that you will find that their Better tariffs are all fixed - both in terms and price. SImpler Energy is Ovo's variable tariff. No supplier can raise prices without informing you and giving you the option to leave without penalty.

  • Don't use Ovo! I switched in October last year as it was cheaper & I could have a smart meter so I could pay direct from my phone.
Problem no 1 was getting the meter changed! They give you 1 day about a month later that you can change, if you can't make that date. Tough! You have to log on again another day & hope you get a different day. Finally in December I booked in for a February date!
Problem 2. I had an email today putting my tarrif up by 26%!!!! New tarrif is over 15p per kwh! More expensive than nearly everywhere else!
I've changed today to Scottish energy!
Beware Ovo are an awful company.
Of course this is with a pre payment meter , I have no idea how they are with direct debit customers but I doubt they're much better.

I didn't have any problems with Ovo when I was with them. They just were not competitive for us when we came to renew, but no supplier is cheapest for everyone.

Hence the advice for everyone to regularly consult a comparison site to find the best deal for them. (especially if you experience a price change)

As an example in this case, the the other thread you created saying essentially the same thing
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5404306
That indicates the price change could save some customers 33% :money:
