Hi,
Looking to get Vista on my laptop. Currently have XP so I guess I just need a Vista upgrade. Looking to get either Home Premium or Business edition.
Anyone know of any great prices on these?
Thanks in advance.

Indeed, if you have a laptop, the upgrade to Vista will not really benefit you that much. Vista uses more ram and more processor power than XP, plus the aero graphics will tax your graphics card.
For the switch to Vista, you should have at least 1Gb ram for it to be worthwhile, at a 2Ghz+ processor wouldn't hurt.
I'm not saying that Vista is rubbish, I have it and prefer it over XP, but you should think before upgrading. Do you really need Vista?0 -

Yes, which is why I like it. But if your laptop can't cope, you shouldn't touch it. I have a 1.7Ghz P4 laptop with 1Gb ram and 128Mb Nvidia graphics card, and Vista ran at a crawl with all the pretty options turned on.
While if you are using the laptop for work, you won't want them turned on anyway, but then why upgrade, when XP currently does everything you need, there are not going to be any driver problems (Some companies drivers are still having teething problems with Vista).0 -
Thanks for the replies everyone. I have done compatiblity checks and the hardware should be fine.
I need to get a new operating system (my current one may or may not be genuine IYSWIM), so I have been investigating Vista as a possibility. I haven't decided yet and I might just end up buying XP.I'm the only gay in this forum

While I'm not an expert on upgrading, if you don't have a genuine version of XP installed, I'm doubtful if it will let you upgrade it to Vista, instead it may say you have to buy a full version instead.0

Cheers for that iviv. I'm not in the habit of using non-genuine software; it was just a temporary fix.
I'm going to research prices for XP...doubt it will be too much.I'm the only gay in this forum

Looking at the prices here, XP home is £57, and Vista home premium is £65.
Please note these are all OEM versions. I'm pretty sure that you can only use the OEM key on just one computer, as opposed to 5 computers if you buy a normal version. Otherwise, its got full functionality, plus its not an upgrade version, so you don't need to worry about your XP install.0 -
I was in WH Smith yesterday and they wanted £220 for Vista Home Premium.
Dell sell a new computer with Vista for that price!
It pays to shop around.0 -

That's the proper retail version for that price then - it's yours for life. The OEM versions dell etc supply with their machines dies with the machine and can't be transferred to any other hardware0
