TalkTalk phone profit

I was wondering just how much profit TT make from phone calls @ 20p per minute + 12p fixed charge ?
Considering that they clearly rate the cost to them as being the same as 3 months mobile charges (the other recent free option) - which to me, looks like about £30 - for 12 months calls (inc to mobiles) !!
TT only have ownership of the last stretch of phoneline (cabinet to house) - so are not responsible for line faults elsewhere - which, to me, looks like HUGE profits ?

If you are paying those extortionate 'penalty rates' for calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers then you are probably on the wrong call plan.
If you change to a call plan with inclusive calls you can then make an unlimited number of calls to geographic numbers starting 01 and 02 and non-geographic numbers starting 03 as long as each call duration is less than 60 minutes. If you need longer, simply hang up and re-dial.
You can also purchase an add-on for several pounds per month that gives unlimited calls to mobile numbers starting 071-075 and 077-079.
Calls to numbers starting 080 are completely free, as are calls to numbers starting 0500.
If you can avoid calling premium rate numbers starting 070, 084, 087, 090, 091, 098 and 118 then there should be nothing extra to pay. Likewise, avoid numbers starting 055, 056 and 076 - but these are incredibly rare anyway.
If you do this, your monthly bill will always be for the same amount, comprising line rental and the cost of the inclusive calls package.0 -
17p fixed connection per call
It's that one that really offends me
Plus 11.5 p per minute
ALL plus VAT !!0 -

You are missing my point - I get free calls (inc to mobiles) for 12 months at the moment (from TT's "sorry")
I am asking why do TT charge such a huge amount and what is their mark up ?
I reckon about 1000 %0 -
after paying £17 odd , why should you have to buy an "add on"
the price of the basic call is a rip off , its almost as if you are paying talk talk 20p per min and having to pay the additional 12p to use BT services , when you have paid TT the same amount in line rental as BT charge their customersSave a Rachael

Line rental provides you with a physical connection and the ability to receive calls at no further cost.
If you then make some calls you have to pay for them. When you call from a landline or mobile and the destination number is on a different network, your provider incurs additional costs.
The first of these is transit costs to get the call from where you are, to the ingress point of the other network. The other is the termination fee paid to that other network which compensates them for delivering the call to the called party. The latter payment means that we do not pay to receive calls.
Transit costs vary quite a bit, depending on how far the call has to travel and exactly how it traverse the phone network. Transit costs are a fraction of a penny per minute, and there is competition from competing transit networks.
Termination fees are capped by Ofcom regulation. These are:
- 0.21p per minute for calls to 01 and 02 numbers (geographic numbers)
- 0.56p per minute for calls to 03 numbers (non-geographic numbers)
- 0.68p per minute for calls to 071-077 and 077-079 numbers (mobile numbers).
For 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers, what used to be the termination fee is now separately declared as the Service Charge.
The mobile termination rate has fallen from more than 25p per minute in the 1990s to around 4p per minute in 2009. Since then, Ofcom regulation has forced an annual reduction, usually in April, with a target of 0.51p per minute from April 2017. By that time, it is likely that all landline providers will offer inclusive calls to mobile numbers and this will mean that everyone will be able to call landline and mobile numbers (as well as 03 numbers) on the same terms.
Termination fees for calls to landline and mobile numbers in Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man are not covered by Ofcom regulations and are a bit higher than for calls to UK numbers. They are around 0.5p per minute for calls to landlines and around 1.2p per minute for calls to mobiles. This is why landline and mobile numbers in Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man do not count towards inclusive allowances.0 -
so basically since allowing other companies to sell "bt" products , BT have placed a chargeable barrier to get back on their system, and back off at the other end

Many calls do not touch BT's infrastructure in any way as they transit from one end of the country to the other. There are multiple transit providers. They do each have to be paid for carrying calls.
Line rental costs have spiralled in recent years. It is likely these increases provide an easy way for landline networks to advertise a lower headline price for broadband than they otherwise would.
For calls, providers offer either an inclusive call plan or a per-minute rate.
Most people have opted for an inclusive call plan. Given that, in general, public services, health services, customer services and financial services no longer use 084 and 087 numbers, and given that landline providers are increasingly offering calls to mobile numbers within inclusive call allowances, many people find that an inclusive call plan covers all of the calls that they make.
A few people persist in paying for individual calls and severely limit their usage of the telephone. Even so, some of them are still paying more than the cost of an inclusive call plan with unlimited calls.0 -

If a TT LLU customer calls another TT LLU customer and the call isn't part of an 'inclusive' calls package , TT raise a charge, that doesn't involve BT at all, it's possible that TT may rent interconnecting network from BT, and they pay OR £8 a month to rent the local loop, but no part of the call charge goes to BT, so TT make £9 profit from the 'line rental' subsidising freebies and less than cost items, like broadband, if you don't have a inclusive call plan they charge you per call, don't like it , move to another company ,or take an inclusive call plan0
