Evening everyone
I'm due to fly to New York with my daughter (age 16) in a few weeks time
I'm a single parent
My question is this
Would I need a written letter of consent from
Her dad? He knows about the trip
She doesn't have contact with him
Also she has just received a new passport which is an adult uk 10 year one
Many thanks x

I took my son to the USA solo several times between the ages of 7 and 21 I was never asked about his father by immigration .
Does your daughter share your surname ?
Realistically at sixteen she could be travelling solo to the US anyway.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
ThankQ
We have different surnames
Anyone else have any thoughts?0 -
South Africa would give you major issues.0

We've taken our grand daughter to the States before no issue.
Plus what would happen if you didn't know where the Dad was & lastly who would know if you knocked up some document in Word & signed it yourself...0 -
ThankQ
For your reply
Suppose I'm just trying to make sure I have everything covered b4 fly off0 -
If her dad is prepared to write the letter then I don't see any downside to doing it: if it's not needed then all that's wasted is a bit of time and paper, if it is needed then you have it to hand.0

ThankQ
Yes he would write a note
Was just wondering if everyone had to take a letter ?0 -
My daughter went to Oz with her cousin when she was 12. We downloaded a consent form which also told you to include photocopies of parents birth certificates. My niece only got questioned as to why she was travelling with a 12 year old when she returned to the UK so was grateful to have all the documentation.0
