PCN for wrong Reg Number

I've just received (23rd Jan) a Parking Charge Notice, for 1st Jan.
It is by Britannia Parking, for parking on private land (owned by Britannia Parking).
It says that driver didn't buy a ticket. Driver DID buy one and put it on dashboard, but no longer has it.
It shows two pictures, one of car entering and one leaving. No other pictures of windscreen or ticket or anything.
The car park uses a machine that required driver to input Reg Number and number of minutes required.
Must have mistyped the Reg Number, as ticket WAS bought and displayed for the period car was parked.
Do not still have the ticket, so can't check it. Sod's law - they normally sit in the centre console for months, but car tidied last week!!
Fine is £50 within 14days, increasing to £85 afterwards.
I'm sure if they checked their system they'd find a ticket issued for a Reg Number very similar to mine (digits transposed or something?) that they don't have entry/exit pictures for - and so they know that Driver made a mistake.
Question: Is it worth appealing?
Question: What happens if I ignore it?
Thanks in advance,
Shentodj

    Question: Is it worth appealing?
    Always.
Question: What happens if I ignore it?
Why would you, seeing as these are easily won at POPLA stage appeal and you've already shown us that they served the Notice too late (outside of 15 days). Better to appeal and win, than wondering for SIX YEARS whether the parking firm might take the thing to small claims court.

The driver does NOT appeal. The keeper DOES. Read the NEWBIES thread please. Easy to beat this lot at POPLA especially with a late Notice. As long as you do not say who was driving nor imply it, which is why I've written a template appeal. You can email it to Britannia but you MUST also add your name and address of course (postal address) and the PCN number and VRN.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Am I correct in interpreting Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 Para 9 (because I got a posted PCN) pt 5 (reproduced below):

(5)The relevant period for the purposes of sub-paragraph (4) is the period of 14 days beginning with the day after that on which the specified period of parking ended.

    The PCN says:
    Date of Contravention = 01 Jan 16
Date of this notice = 20th Jan 16 (actually received 23rd).

So isn't this OUTSIDE THE 14 DAY PERIOD?

Thanks again in advance for help. It's much appreciated.

if they wish to use the POFa2012 ,

if thery don,t then they can send it when they want.

    before kicking off

is the V5 registered in your name at the address the letter was sent to , or is it a hire/lease/rental vehicle?

you will be telling brittania that if this proceeds to court you will require a full printout of all cars entering/leaving between the hours of "x" and "x"
if you go to the stickes at the top of this forum and read https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4816822 is a complete template made for BPA members , please send it WITHOUT altering or adding anything to it
the idea is to get a POPLa code from them , the fight hard and win easily

Yes, you have solid appeal grounds, that's why I said above:
Why would you (ignore) seeing as these are easily won at POPLA stage appeal and you've already shown us that they served the Notice too late (outside of 15 days).

This isn't your thread ... please start your own for targeted advice.

(We work on the basis of one person/one thread here, otherwise things get too confusing).

having taken the advice here I appealed through POPLA on the grounds that Britannia took 22 days to send me the PCN.

if that was the only thing you appealed then its no wonder you lost.

you are now in a position of waiting to see if they start court proceedings (6 yrs)

you will of course ask for a full printout from the pay and display machine and a full printout from the ANPR camera system for the same period to be produced in court.

what makes you believe that Britannia parking own the land? search on the land registry or local council office could throw up the truth

seems I am posting this to an interloper on this thread

please read quickly , this post will self destruct in ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
