Abbey to Santander "family bank account" package and charges

Hi, I opened a account with abbey national in 2002 ish and at some point a package account was added on with things that was of no use I can not even think what the benefits was nor can I find a information pack online for it. And also at some point was given a £100 overdraft which was my worst nightmare as it's not about just paying back what have used the fees and interests etc. how the account was Santander took over this "family bank account" so I was then paying them for the monthly fee originally charged by abbey. So after a few years of living out of an overdraft with hefty charges from Santander I'm unsure if there was changes along the way in regards to how they make charges etc. times I'd see no available funds my money would be supped up in more than one charge from time to time. So I'd phone them the only thing they could offer is upping the overdraft hitch covered the extra fees unknowing that it ups interests fees too. I phoned to suggest them to take the package account off so I was paying for that and when there was no available funds to pay for that I'd get a bank charge for that. Santander had no idea what the "family bank account" was and still don't. There answer to me down grading my account no as I had an overdraft but they still continued to Charge monthly fee for the package account but I noticed they changed the wording on bank statements from "account fee"to "settlement of fees" the account was very alive and still in use at this stage. So after along time of feeling I've no way out and living off a overdraft that was upped a few times the final time it reached £400. I asked to close the account and I will set up a repayment arrangement they refuse because they couldn't close the account with monies still owing. I felt my only option was to stop using the account and open another account else where. Santander contacted as the account was reaching over £500 in which I owed them. I once again explained what had been going on the package account the overdraft fees and the fact one week a month I worked for nothing as it paid for a bank account I couldn't get off or got fobbed off info. She asked me to pop into branch to down grade the account which stopped the monthly fee of a package account, she also said make monthly payments into the account from my new bank which I did what I could afford to find that I was only paying for charges and interest fees and nothing coming off the overdraft. So I stopped paying again and they was back on the phone saying that the account was going to collections and the account will closed for use best news I'd ever heard as no charges or interest could be added to the overdraft. I've 2 final payments to make and the nightmare would of come to an end.

My question is I know it's a old account with package that Santander still charged me for even tho they had no idea what the package was and still don't is there anything I can do like claim for the monthly fee back? I have one statement with the name "family bank account " on which is April 2010. But when I phoned to make a compliant they trying say it's always been a basic account. I know time isn't on my side but even I get 50p back its a pack raw carrots and I carry them home sorry I can skip the 5p bag charge.

You can try and claim back the packaged account fees certainly if you can show the package you had and the payments going out

The OD fees and that are not going to happen - you going into the OD and using it / going over are your own financial mismanagement as far as they are concerned

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
