My OH often laughs at my habit of keeping accounts, saving bits of money here and there, making lists and planning ahead, but that is what makes things run smoothly in the Land of Nargle. I had to be disciplined and organised when we were paying off our IVA for six years, and the habits stuck. A few months ago we had some unforeseen car expenses and OH bought a new washing machine from a website, paying for it by bank transfer. It turned out to be a scam so that was £250 lost with no chance of getting it back. If it had not been for my emergency fund that I had started we would have been in the brown stuff.

The moral is, sort out a budget, plan for expenditures and put cash to one side for emergencies
Living from payday to payday is stressful and ends up biting you on the backside.

So, let's see if I can get that planned NSD today.

My hubby also laughs at me when I get my account book out. Ten years ago when I use to go out with my family for a meal and I use to get my coupons out my family use to tell me that I was embarrassing. They have changed their tune now.

That is NSD number 2 safely in the Cauldron of Doom!

Igor, forgive me if this is a stupid question, but...why are you wandering around dressed as an orangutan?

Ah, you are rehearsing for tomorrow's Chinese New Year event in the cafe, seeing as it is the Year of the Monkey and all that.....I will probably hate myself for asking this, but what precisely will be on the menu?

I didn't realize that orangutans wore pink frilly rara skirts, pretty high heeled sandals and lippy?

Oh dear. The entire cafe staff are now wandering around in orangutan costumes. Yes, Hubert, we spotted you. The skirt and heels were a dead giveaway. I think the orangutan with hair curlers must be Mrs Doyle, the one with the big chef's hat must be Swedish Chef, the one walking a bit funny with his nose stuck in a cookery book is Igor......so the one slicking down his orange furry hair with Brylcreem must be Fabio.

Now look, you chaps, take this seriously. Our Chinese customers make a big thing of their New Year and might think you are all taking the monkey, sorry, the mickey. We cannot afford to upset our customers, remember that!
