    hi, me again

so we cancelled our direct debits, have had a few letters already!!

am in the process of printing and sending letters saying we will be offering £1 per month until a longer term solution is reached with stepchange.

tsb loan have sent a letter today saying our direct debit has been cancelled, and if we dont pay they will/ could take payment from the account linked to that loan.

we are changing banks at the moment to a basic one, but its not fully set up yet .

should i just send the letter anyways about the £1 situation?

    Yes I would.

Be careful you don't leave too much cash in that account, it might disappear !!!

thanks, will get those letters finalised tomorrow !

There's barely any cash in that account, but probably enough to take the payment and a bit more so will withdraw that too.

    thank you!

Feeling a bit stressed again trying to fill out forms for stepchsnge to start our DMP but don't know half of our account numbers for the creditors

What should we do - wait until we receive letters saying a payment has been ️missed as then they will have account numbers on ?
Try and ring everyone and ask?

Give it a week, ten days, they will all of written to you demanding there pound of flesh, I`d just wait until they write, its the easiest option.

Ringing up lots of creditors asking for account information is time consuming, and stressful, as they will probably have to put you through to collections, then go through 3 lots of security checks, want to know why you've not paid, then attempt to get you to pay, the list goes on.

Just sit back, relax, and let the Royal mail do the work for you.

    Relax, put your feet up.

Once arrangement is in place they normally run pretty smoothly.

You wont notice much difference from when you were making full payments, it can take a while for news to filter down the chain of command, so if you get any calls, just refer them to stepchange, its that easy.

Just so you are aware you may get letters telling you you need to pay X amount, to bring your account up to date otherwise there will be dire consequences etc, etc - these are just computer generated letters they have to send, and wont take your DMP into account, so don't panic !!!

thanks - after missing ONE payment from tsb loan (only a small one at that !!) we've already had a letter saying to bring account up to date or they will pass to debt collectors etc etc

husband is really worrying, to be honest- im not after listening to all of you and knowing that actually thousands of people do a dmp every year . you've been a great reassurance.

now just to budget correctly. i mean, so for example fuel we have budgeted £40 per week. im hoping to use half of that . so should i withdraw all the £40, put half in the car and then the rest in a 'fuel' jar? is that what people do?!

    Something along those lines yes.

You will find the more information you have, and the better understanding you have of the debt collection process, the more you will come to realise that as long as you make regular payments, your creditors will just accept it, and nothing else will happen.

You will come to see you were worrying about nothing, and wonder what all the fuss was about !
