Travel insurance with mountain bike

We are going on holiday and taking oh's beloved mountain bike with us. He is covered by our flex plus holiday insurance but the bike isn't and the bike is covered by our home insurance but only once we get there. Neither will cover 'in transit'. Now as the bike would cost £4500 to replace and airlines won't cover that amount I could do with a policy that will in case it goes missing or gets damaged. Holidaysafe has one which looks to do the job but I am a bit twitchy having read some of the comments on this forum. Can you reassure me or recommend another company to try? Many thanks

Beware any recommendation you get for holidaysafe0

Is that the basic cover, Quentin or the company in general?

Choice is either to arrange a different Travel Insurance with a company that might cover the bike ( PJ Hayman ?) or obtain goods in transit cover for the bike going out and coming back or take out a separate specialised cycle Insurance.
I have come across people doing this before and i think in the end they have opted for one cycle policy covering their bike for the whole journey forward and back. But the policy was apparently quite expensive and they were undecided whether to take the bike or just buy or hire a cheap bike at their destination. This was some time ago and i don't remember the Insurer. I think they found them in a cycling magazine covering adventure holidays. I suspect that Insurers that offer bike Insurance and cycling magazines will know the best way to fully cover the bike.
Be careful with any Insurance or covering expensive bikes abroad to ensure that you fully comply with any requirements, about properly securing the bike when not in use and left unattended. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Thanks huckster the only thing we are not covered for are the flights so maybe the goods in transit bit? It won't ever be left unattended.
