Accommodation & Travel Needed for 1 month Work Experience

Options
Hello,

I have set up this thread in the hopes that someone might be able to help or offer me advice regarding my issue.I recently attended a work experience interview at BBC MediaCity, Salford; finding out I had been accepted onto the placement a couple of days ago. I am completely thrilled with the opportunity but instantly started worrying on how I could manage to live in Manchester for a month.

I live in Newcastle and don't really know what my best option would be. The month long work experience would be unpaid, so I need to cut costs where possible. I'm torn between living in Manchester for the month or commuting daily; I own a car so have no trouble in driving down. I just want to know what my best options would be before making a permanent decision and potentially spending a lot of money. I really don't want to miss out on this opportunity as I'm a graduate desperate for different experiences. If anyone could offer me any advice regarding my options and situation, I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you!

Have you spoken to anyone at Media City, I would be very surprised if they couldn't help you...give HR a call....And congratulations on securing such a fantastic place.

Do you have any friends or friends of friends who are students in Manchester who might be willing to put you up for the month?

You could also try the student housing forums to see if anyone has a spare bed they may be willing to rent for the month.

A post on Facebook may also help.

There are university halls that are not full this year. You could ask if they would do a one month rental.

There are many private halls that may offer a month rent.

Hard Farm is definitely a private hall that will let for short term.

I had a 4 week placement in Edinburgh as part of my Masters degree, I stayed Monday - Friday and drove home at the weekends, spending 2 of the week staying with friends, 1 in a Travelodge that happened to have a cheap deal for that week, and 1 in an AirBnB place.
