New colleague let slip their salary....

The salary band was clearly stated in the job ad, Salary plus package of pension, bonus, health & dental care, subsidised Gym and Canteen and oddly free daily fruit. Worth roughly another 10k ish excluding bonus.
Its so common for staff doing similar roles to be on different money. I am doing some reviews next week and I can guarantee that there will be a split across the staff as to how they approach the meeting.
The bonus's have been pre-calculated and I have the flexibility to offer between 1 and 3k in pay rises and have to present a business case to snr mgt for more.
1. Some staff will do no prep, treat the review as a pain and they will get the minimum 1k
2, Some staff will make a bit more of an effort and request a number and justify it they will get 2-3k
3. A small number will be engaged in the process and put in real effort and essentially write my business case for me. Which makes asking for more money a doddle. I have already estimated that 3 staff will be getting 5k+0 -
I wouldn't necessarily say 'I want £23k because my colleague gets £23k' but you certainly have the knowledge they're willing to pay £23k so you are better off with the knowledge than without it.
↑↑↑↑↑↑↑ Yup! I would never say "I want £23k because my colleague gets £23k"... but knowing that figure helps me focus my argument.
If I get the evidence I need regarding the advertising of the job at £22k, I do feel that I can mention that as part of a conversation about an increase in pay though.0 -

I fear i would be in between group 1 and 2. Thanks for the info, should these situations arise ill prep and push for what I believe i deserve. Ill also keep this in mind for if/when I eventually move on to another job and have to go through the interview process.0 -
