Streaming To Chromecast

I have just bought a new tablet. It's a Mediatech 10.1", with a slot for 2 sims. I bought it mainly because of the price, and the ram size (2gb). Everything's great on it, it's fast, good screen. I can watch streaming videos without a problem. The problem comes when I try to stream the screen to tv. If I'm watching something other than you tube, which doesn't have the streaming/casting icon, the stream is juddery, both on the tablet and pc. The tablet doesn't have hdmi. Is there a micro usb to hdmi cable? or is there any other way I can improve this.

First thought would be poor wifi to chromecast or settings in chromecast .

What are you using to stream from apps that have no chromecast support ??

SkyGo, which doesn't support hdmi. I watch it sometimes on the tablet, while the rest of the family watch some reality rubbish. It seem that mirroring the tablet screen was the best option.

I don't think Sky are too keen on you mirroring their content onto your TV either, and I'm surprised it's not blocked, like HDMI. They'd far rather you buy a NowTV for this - considering they are or were a tenner, and you were considering buying a cable, that's generally the most user friendly choice for watching your Sky stuff on a TV, without a Sky box. Or an XBox or PS3/4. Some devices support a picture output over that microUSB connector but by no means all. It has a name - is it MiraCast maybe?

Thanks almillar. It is MiraCast you're thinking of, but I thought the tablet had to have hdmi for that. I'll have to look into it.

    Hi Robm1955

You say "The problem comes when I try to stream the screen to tv."

What are you using at the moment to stream to your tv via your chromecast?
Do you mean when you are using the chrome browser (with the chromecast extension) or when you are using some other app or program on your tablet or pc?

It works fine for YouTube (Chromecast can get this directly from net, not thru tablet, but doesn't work well for Sky Go (app)(I'm surprised it works at all).

Aplogies, I did see the tablet (and pc) mentioned but somehow didn't see the mention of SkyGo, it was the app being used I was curious about.
  • When you use a proper chromecast app, the chromecast itself is streaming from the internet.

When you cast your screen, it has to turn your screen into a video feed and bounce it to your chromecast. This is much slower than a direct internet stream because your tablet is doing the compression and streaming

Thanks Ringo, that's probably the answer. Streaming anything from another app on the tablet (mirroring the tablet), is always going to have an effect. Thanks for all your replies.
  • Does it support MHL over micro-USB? This is a way to go from microUSB->HDMI

Do you have a link to the tablet's spec?
