A Diary of Reinventing Ourselves

Ha, thegreenone - very clever. And very sensible. Oh for the day when I am the one totally in control. Actually it shouldn't be very difficult as OH obviously has absolutely no interest and it seems he never looks at the accounts either. So perhaps that is what I should aim for.
OH went out the door not happy - asked me to check the house before the cleaner arrived this evening. I told him they weren't coming and he said I should have waited until we had chatted about it. We did chat - he just doesn't remember the conversation. I suspect he didn't think I would go through with it. No ironer either : )) And I have a new found hobby - actually excited to see some ironing for me to do - gives me an excuse to watch some tv. I can never usually justify time sitting down watching tv - it's a rare treat and I haven't watched a film for about 7 years.
OH has handed me a memory stick on the way out the door. He said all the details on there but he might have to explain some things. Certainly not making this easy for me. But it's a start. I was wondering if this is all a control issue but I really don't think it is - I know him pretty well and I think he is just really hopeless at getting anything done.0 -
Watch this space - new numbers coming up!!0

:silenced::silenced: OH just rang to say he will get a battery for the smoke alarm on the way home. Said he has ignored it for so long he doesn't hear it anymore. I was desperate to point out the analogy of this with other areas of life but resisted the temptation.0

Hi FT, hopefullyall the info will be on the stick... expect the worst when you look at it.
I had a similar thing with my OH, and he was in 2x the amount of debt I had realised. It took him a while to get on board, but he is totally there now...took about 3 years for him to get there mind you! He recently said he wanted a fairly expensive computer, and said next payday he was going to work out a savings plan so he can save up for it. Previously it would have just gone on the card with no thought, so I'm pleased. Your OH will get there soon, just like mine did. I think it's a big step for them blokes to admit they are not on top of things and not dealing with finances etc especially well.
You're doing grand though, keep going and enjoy your tv/ironing time. :TPAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.
Now to start saving...it's a whole new world!!0 -
I concur with Willowpop, it was the same with my OH too.
Slow and steady as they say FT and you will get there.0 -

:rotfl: I had to laugh at this and it is so true. I hope the figures are more or less what you are expecting FT. Enjoy your film and so pleased to see you are taking your new frugal lifestyle in your stride. Yes, I laughed out loud too (but quietly) - ok, I'm not sure if that is possible either! Hmm, I'm really not expecting the figures to be that different but now you are making me have my doubts. Will look tonight when kids are in bed. Need to concentrate. And perhaps hide with a bottle of wine. Will send OH up for a three hour bath as opposed to his usual two!!0

A film is good ironing session, 2hrs ish and a couple of cups of tea/wine depending if it is past 12:00.0

Hmm. Not really into films. I think I'll watch the voice from last Saturday. Rarely watch it but do enjoy it when it's on. Think of me ironing creases into OH's shirts. Might be a few extra for good measure tonight!!!!0

Hi FT
Another one cheering you on from the sidelines, I think you're doing fab!
If you don't mind a suggestion - have a look at soap nuts for clothes washing. They are available from amazon and ocado
just search for ecozone soap nuts.
Work out a roughly 3p a wash!
Read the reviews, and see what you think. I use them myself and love them.
On another note - if you do use amazon a fair bit - there is a website called kidstart which is free to join which will give you 2% cashback when you purchase from amazon. It will transfer the money to an account you nominate when the cashback reaches a chosen threshold. It all helps0
