Student Grant Immediate Repayment Letter

Options
Hi, I've received a letter from the student loans company advising that I need to pay back a little over £1000 immediately as they recalculated my grant incorrectly in the 2013/2014 year. My question is can they force me to pay this back immediately? I provided all of the details of my mother's income as requested at the time, my grant and loan were calculated on that so why are they recalculating it 2 years later (2 years after I've graduated!) anyway?! I'm absolutely not in a position to pay it back in a lump and to be honest, I don't want to pay it at all as in my opinion it's their mistake and I don't see how anything could have changed 2 years on!

Does anyone have any advice?

If you are proactive, and speak to them, then if you do need to pay it back they'll allow installments. You need to find out a bit more on what it changed so significantly in the assessment though. Unless they've changed systems, it should be easy to identify straight away.
