Debenhams Store Card 1980

I believe that one can now claim for mis- sold PPI on shop cards taken out in 80'S and 90's

Unfortunately, I no longer have the card nor any account number/ reference number pertaining to it.

I also no longer have any bank statements for that period. Am I on a wild goose chase?

Any ideas what I can do to find some kind of reference?

  • It's very unlikely that you had PPI in 1980 since ASU, its predecessor, was in its infancy.

If you have no records you cannot prove you had a policy anyay and as the account no longer exists it in unlikely that it would be traceable.

Even if it was, FOS can only look at a case if the business you are complaining to was under its jurisdiction, or that of a predecessor to it at the time.

The first such predecessor was the Insurance Ombudsman Bureau, which launched in 1983 so a complaint about something that happened in 1980 would seem to be outside of FOS jurisdiction.

Never mind, it gave an opportunity to show the correct usage of "it's" and "its".
  • Thank you for that reply and its grammar lesson. I definitely remember having to pay a Store card insurance each month.

Oh well, as you have explained, it's a dead duck!
