Excessive play in lower suspension ball joint
Hi folks,
My 2002 Fabia has just failed its MoT, but only on a couple of things.
- Front suspension has excessive play in lower suspension ball joint nearside front
- Headlamp aim too low nearside
The headlamp should be a reasonably quick and easy job for my usual garage to fix, I think, but what about the first? Any idea of a ball-park figure to aim for. (It's not something I can do myself.)
It's also close to needing a new clutch. I've been quoted £429 from the dealer, £330 from a decent independent. Waiting for a price back from my usual garage.
Any guidance on prices gratefully received. Ta.

Local Indy has just come back to me- £450 for the clutch. More than Skoda!0

Did the dealer quote you for the work or for the clutch itself?
£429 from the dealer and £330 / £450 from the independents are just for the clutch (parts & labour). No DMF in my car, which is good.

I've also been given a rough estimate of £60-£85 for the suspension from one of the independents, but that's just from me describing the MoT failure over the phone.0 -
Ball joint price is about right. You get 0.7 hours by the book, although you'll likely be charged for an hours labour and the part is approx £15-20+vat.0
