Madrid - best place to stay

I'm looking for a nice hotel, good for a mother and daughter, in a safe area within walking distance of the main attractions. There is so much choice out there I just don't know where to start.
If not, just advice on the best area to stay would be appreciated.
Many thanks

We stayed in the praktik metropol in madrid in sept and it was pretty fab the only issue i really had with our room was it overlooked gran via, which is busy 24/7 however if we had an inward facing room our stay would have been spot on.
There are lots of variables in your request for suggestions though.
Do you like to be in the heart of the city, or do you prefer quiet areas, how are you going to spend your time in madrid, how are you going to get from the airport, how much do you want to spend etc etc.
We chose our hotel based on it being a 30sec walk to the metro so we got to and from the airport via the metro. Also it was close to a few cocktail bars we wanted to visit and it was in easy walking distance to all of the main sights.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
We went to Madrid for the first time last year.
We stayed in an apartment along Cava Baja street in Centro but a 5 minute wlk from La Latina subway.
The apartment was one bedroom newly renovated and very nice.
The owners agent waited outside in the hot sun for two hours because our flight was delayed but never complained about it and took the time to orientate us for Madrid.
Most of the Cava Baja street is made up restaurants, tapas places etc and it was great. The taxi driver new it and called it the street of restaurants. Our apartment was at the back of the block and very quiet. Taxi from the airport is a standard 30 euro.
We felt it was a very safe area.
It is very easy to walk to Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol the Cathedral and the Royal Palace and if you want to get to the Prado you could walk, about 30 minutes, or take the subway from La Latina.
Take the 'free' walking tour on your first day there that will give you a good idea of the place and also give you some good restaurants, eating places etc etc.
Oh the missus booked the apartment through airBnB with no problem at all. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I know a couple of people that have used Airbnb and they recommend it.
Budget is anything from £50 - £150 a night and somewhere central so that we can walk to most tourist attractions etc.
Mainly interested in the museums and art galleries, we have 3 days. Using taxis and public transport.
Will have a look at all the suggestions.0 -
Hotel Piramides is where I'm staying in May.
Looks to be reasonably located. Certainly reasonably priced when I booked it with flights via Iberia.0
