Natwest Plantinum select Account- Travel Insurance

Options
We hold a Natwest Platinum select account. One of the benefits is free travel insurance. However if you reach 70 each account holder of that age has to pay a £50 supplement which seems rather unfair. It rather takes away one of the main benefits of the account. Do other Bank reward schemes charge extra for the over 70's on their "Free" Travel insurance.

It's 75+ for Nationwide FlexPlus - and I don't see why this is unfair. It doesn't "take away the main benefit" as for elderly people the insurance costs more everywhere.

The age (70) can be questionable as according to MSE cheapest worldwide annual family cover is the same £89 for 70+ and 66-69, but for under 66 it's ~£55. So Natwest seem to do you a favour by postponing the supplement until you reach 70.

I think you will find that it will also charge more for declared medical conditions. Remember asking about upgrading my Halifax a/c some years ago and the increased premium ( plus monthly charge) was equal to or even more than annual travel insurance from other providers.
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

  • Not "unfair" as such, but the OP needs to review whether the policy is still adequate for their needs. It sounds like it isn't.

    And it's not a "reward" - you're paying £18 a month for it.
