I've done the calculations myself and a 12cm tube does seem to be overkill, but the hole is already there :)

Better to be safe than sorry. We've got a 13kw multi fuel stove in the kitchen, it 'needs by law' 4400mm2 free air space. Right... thats about a 4cm diameter hole. House was already fitted with 100mm duct and free air vent and some idiot drilled another 100mm hole above the cooker (tried installing an extractor by the looks of it). We ended up blocking that one up and that still gives us 14,700mm2 free air space :p

I have never heard of a house needing a 120mm hole in the wall at floor level...especially for a fire and boiler. I thought boilers were all sealed? Is you house that well sealed that the fire doesn't get enough air???

It seems a very weird set-up and you seem to be making an even more weird use for it!!!

Its kind of the law... unless you want to end up dead

When buying a vent cover that slots into the tube throug the wall, do you think 125mm refers to the external diameter of the tube, or the internal diameter of the tube?

120mm is the internal, 125mm the external. Can only find vents that fit 125mm.

The inside.the cover will have plastic tabs that slot inside.not a problem if you have a funny size/someone has used a slightly different core drill size.the tabs are designed to be snapped off if needed.fix flush to wall, silicone edges.you can buy reducers, personally have never bothered.screwfix have a half decent range
