Npower pre payment & debt issue

Hi,
I have had an ongoing issue with Npower (previous threads on here), they didn't bill me which resulted in a debt mounting up on my account, in the end I agreed to have a pre payment meter fitted just so I could start chipping away at the debt. After a while I did an online energy comparison & found I could get my electric cheaper elsewhere, so I switched suppliers.
I have been with my new supplier for 2 months & have just received a final bill from Npower, I thought that any debt gets passed onto the new supplier?
Is this not the case?

Does the meter still show the original debt (less any chipping away you managed)?
Or has the debt been wiped completely from the meter since you switched?0 -
It does nt get passed onto the next supplier. You have to settle up. Check screen "S " for the total debt..also screen "A " the credit/debit screen will show a build up of standing charge owed if you have`nt been topping up recently so there are possibly two debt screens.0

Thank you, I just assumed the debt would be passed on. There was me thinking I'd finally got away from Npower, looks like I'm stuck with them for a little while longer.0

You can get away from Npower . The DAP ( debt assigment protocol ) is put into place to encourage you to possibly switch to a cheaper tariff, but only on the same expensive prepayment meter. You continue to repay Npower whilst with the new supplier. It seems that Npower can object to the switch. From what I ve seen there is nt much variation in the prepayment meter rates, they re all pretty high. If you switch to Ovo they will probably fit their own prepay smart meter. The best move would be to get it all repaid as quickly as possible and get back on to credit meters for at least 25% cheaper tariffs. Staying with Npower may be the best way to get back your credit meter once the debt is cleared.0
