credit card v cash in USA?

We are currently cash-rich in USA having sold our motorhome, but have been using a credit card for our daily needs while travelling across the continent. We return to UK in March and wanted to know whether we should continue to use our credit card (which gives us a great exchange rate) and exchange our US$ on our return, or spend US$ and have less to exchange? Any thoughts?

In the USA your dollar is worth a dollar. But when you bring it to the UK and convert it to sterling you will lose something in the exchange. So, if you use them whilst you are in the US you avoid that loss.

When you say you are cash rich do you mean you actually have a bag of greenbacks that you are carrying around with you (somewhat risky I would have though) or that you have the proceeds from the sale of the campervan in your US bank account? If the latter then you may be able to transfer the money to the UK at a lower cost than you would have to pay to withdraw the money from US ATMs.
