Weekend away with dogs, a toddler and a teenager!

Options
Hi all

Recommendations and ideas please!

We're a family of 2 adults, a 16 year old and a 1-year-old with 2 dogs. I'm looking for ideas for us all to get away together for a weekend. I don't want the expense of passports for the dogs so UK is best I think. Any ideas?? Need to keep everyone entertained whilst keeping costs to a minimum and somewhere that will let the dogs in. Help??!!!!

We live in the North West but happy to travel a few hours.

Lots of holiday cottage websites have a "dog friendly" search facility, so you can select that option as well as others, such as number of bedrooms, location etc. This is a company we've used on a few occasions:

I was going to suggest somewhere like Haven, but your 1 year old is probably too young for the entertainment and your 16 year old might be bored.
Self catering might be your best bet, especially as you have a wide age gap with the children. You could make your own fun.

Some cottage companies to browse through:
    http://www.sykescottages.co.uk/ (nationwide)

https://www.yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/ (loads of stuff to do around Whitby)

Most companies will do offers if you leave it to the last few weeks before you want to go. So if you're not too fussy about the accommodation doing this can make it cheaper.

  • Thanks for all of your replies! I've joined that dog friendly group on facebook - thanks for the tip dragonsoup. I like the idea of a cottage in many ways, but I also like built-in entertainment a bit. We loved a villa in America to do all the disney stuff, but thats out of the question financially this year. Someone else has also recommended Centre Parcs - has anyone been before?

My friend took her dog to Centre Parcs and it wasn't very dog friendly and back in 2012 it was £55 per dog, so not sure how much it is now. Why not take a look on ownersdirect website for cottages or take a look at the Breakfree locals deal the codes are on here and they allow dogs and you have entertainment and swimming. So if you fancy it take a look.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)
