Redundancy and maternity pay

Hope this all makes sense , my daughter has worked for her employer for five years , she started her maternity pay ( statutory ) at the end of September , she is a basic tax payer, she is being made redundant and is happy with the financial outcome apart from the fact that she will now get the rest of her statutory maternity pay in one lump sum ( she gets paid tomorrow) however she's only just realised ( baby brain ) t now she is going to pay a lot more tax and NI and won't be able to claim much of a refund as its all being paid in this financial year as she has been paid her normal wage so from April last year so has earn enough to pay tax whereas if her maternity had carried on being paid monthly then she wouldn't have earnt enough in 2016 / 2017 to pay tax so we're thinking she's going to be losing out having it in one lump sum , any advice anyone ?
