I think the point here is that had it not been the OP phoning, and someone who was trying to obtain info fraudulently then they would have received it no problem - and then we would all have been up in arms!

I think £150 is a good offer, but as the OP said a £5k fine could go their way, maybe you should remind them of that. If this had happened to me I would have transferred my account and closed it immediately!

But I thought they have the authority to close your account immediately? OK U have 6k of debts... they give u 5k but want u to give them 1k which you don't have now... what can you do ?:rotfl:

Doesn't the title of this thread say it all?
  • They won't close my account, they have no reason to. Although - if they did, and my loan was wiped, I sure would be overjoyed!!!

never mind, I'll guess I'll just have to pay it back the old fashioned way!
  • I wouldn't settle for the £150, breaking the data protection act is a very serious offence, the perpetrator could potentially be fined £ thousands, if I were you I would contact the Information Commissioner (www.ico.gov.uk) for more advice
  • What if they closed your account and called the whole 6K in. Small claims, CCJ, balliffs.... haha...
You'd be laughing on the other side of your face then, wouldn't you...?

You could always look at and phone the Information Commissionaire....
Small claims action 30 quid... But I'd crush you like the little bug that you are if I were them.....

As the OP appears to have suffered no direct loss, surely the best resolution would be for the Bank to be ordered to spend the £5k fine on retraining their staff and updating their systems to make sure this doesn't happen again.

After all, that is the purpose of this thread isn't it (not a compensation chasing exercise:rolleyes:  )?

I've would accept the £150 offer, but that brings me nicely onto another question :
I was a viticim of fraud from the inside of a very well known high street bank, basically I attempted to logon to online banking, error came up with a number and reference. I called and they asked me to reset my security numbers which I did, and I could access online again. Now 12 hours later £1100 was taken from the account. Once I found out I reported ASAP to the bank and the money was refunded.
Would there be anything I could do ? The fraudulant transaction was made over the phone, and once they recalled the phone calls they instantly refunded the money.

Is there anything I can do ? Sorry for hijacking the thread

If the money has been refunded, what else do you want? Have you suffered any financial loss or been inconvenienced?

Yep, it happened 5 days before I was due to go on holiday, and as a result I couldn't take as much spending money as I would have liked.
I didn't want to and was advised not to take my switch card away with me.

I ended up spending 2 hours in the bank, and as an hourly paid contractor I lost a good bit of earnings for that day.
  • I would give them the money back..

If someone clones your card, or uses it for online transactions, they give you the money back..

    So why cant you?
