I had an old ford focus estate and got a wheel barrow in it standing up...and another time got a washing machine in with lots of room.
the petrol was the same as my rover25 consumption.
The only thing is the car tax is high, no much tho

Have sworn never again I will touch the trio of french/vauxhall/ford - I don't care what the adverts /paid reviews say, 99% of them are just badly designed cars and let's not even talk about keeping them running.
Either you are exaggerating for effect or you have had some very bad luck. My wife has had Vauxhalls for years (Astra/Cavalier/Vectra) and lately Fords (Focus/C-Max). Never a moment's trouble with any of them. I have had Renaults, Citroens and Fords amongst others, and apart from routine maintenance and consumables they have given very few problems. None has ever failed to get me where I was going. I wouldn't call any of then 'badly-designed'. I think you have been listening to too much pub talk.

If all you drive is brand new cars than the make won't matter much as they are all good when new!

Who said any of them were brand new? The last new car I bought was in 1986.
